Plot

In 1979, the U.S. Embassy in Iran is overrun and most of the staff are taken hostage. Six staff members flee in the chaos and are hidden in the private home of the Canadian Ambassador. But the noose is tightening and they cannot remain hidden forever.

The U.S. government is baffled at how to rescue them until CIA Agent Tony Mendez hatches an audacious scheme. Using his contacts in Hollywood, Mendez creates an entirely fake movie called "Argo" and then flies into Iran where he meets up with the six to give them fake credentials and their cover as movie producers who are scouting for shooting locations for Argo.

But time is running out as Iran reconstructs shredded documents which makes them realize that there are six missing staff members and the politicians back in the United States want to shut down the operation. Risking torture and death, Mendez defies his orders to abandon the six and bring them home.
