Autolycus is a recurring character in both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and its spin-off show Xena: Warrior Princess.

Autolycus is a highly skilled thief. He loves to proclaim himself "The King of Thieves". He can fight his way out of a situation if the need arises but his strengths lie in cunning, stealth, lock-picking and the ability to think ahead. He conceals a grappling hook up his sleeve that he can shoot out at a moment's notice to help him quickly escape when the need arises. And it usually arises quite often in his line of work. He is friend and ally to both Hercules, half-god son of Zeus and Xena, the Warrior Princess. He has helped both of them on numerous occasions but doesn't like to shout about it. He hates the idea of any good deed he accomplishes being advertised because he fears it may tarnish his reputation as "The King of Thieves". Whenever he needs to make a quick exit he likes to do it with a flourish. He proudly announces himself to his enemy, swiftly strokes his mustache and lifts up into the air with the help of his grappling hook, yelling his trademark yodel.
