Charlie Sheen was offered a baseball scholarship to University of Kansas prior to focusing on an acting career. He is still an avid baseball fan, particularly of the Cincinnati Reds and is known to collect various baseball memorabilia as a hobby.
Although Charlie Sheen has since become infamous for his problems with alcohol and drugs, one of his most famous early roles was as a stoner in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This cameo role was prior to his drug abuse and was the result of him staying up 48 hours straight to look like that.
Sheen has reported that fellow actor Keith David saved his life during the shooting of the 1986 film Platoon. During a helicopter scene, the helicopter banked sharply and Sheen lost his balance and started falling out of the open doors and would have plunged to his death had not David sitting next to him, seen his impending fall and grabbed him.
Charlie Sheen's real life father, Martin Sheen has portrayed the father of several of his characters in various films and TV shows including the 1987 film, Wall Street and the 1998 film, No Code of Conduct as well as several episodes of the 1996 TV series, Spin City and the 2012 TV series Anger Management. Further, Martin Sheen portrayed the father of one of his character's girlfriend on the 2003 series, Two and a Half Men.
Charlie Sheen named his daughter, Sam Sheen in honor of the film that he was filming when she was born; Scary Movie 3 and wanted the initials "S" and "M" in her name.
