When NASA Astronaut Tony Nelson crash lands his capsule on a remote island on the South Pacific, he certainly never expected to discover a strange bottle. He also certainly never expected that upon opening it; he would free a 2,000 year old genie named Jeannie who is instantly smitten with her savior and proclaims him to be her master.
And he most certainly never expected that she would follow him back home and constantly uses her magical wishing powers to try and make his life easier. And he also never expected that Jeannie's wishes would have a very bad habit of complicating Tony's life.
But he is darn sure that with all of the strange comedic antics and mishaps that are constantly occurring around him; his nemesis Colonel Bellows and NASA's psychiatrist is convinced that Nelson has a few screws loose. And if Bellows ever manages to prove it, Tony's sure that he'll lose his coveted astronaut status for good!
One of the more popular American fantasy sitcoms of the late 1960s, I Dream of Jeannie is considered a classic icon of American television. Aside from its television series run, it was so popular that an animated Jeannie cartoon based on the character was created as well as two separate made-for-TV reunion movies featuring Barbara Eden reprising her former role as Jeannie the Genie although her co-star, Larry Hagman declined to participate.
