Detective Adrian Monk was once the most brilliant and talented crime solver San Francisco had ever seen. Even his closest associates would admit that he was a bit tightly wound and a neat freak but he was good at his job. Amazingly good. A modern day Sherlock Holmes, he always solved the most bizarre murders and mysteries.
Until his beloved wife was murdered by a exploding car bomb and left him with the one case he needed to solve and the one mystery he couldn't figure out: how to live his life without her.
The answer was simple: He couldn't.
Suffering a nervous breakdown, Monk was left with crippling obsessive-compulsive disorders, intense phobias, and psychological hang-ups that left him incapable of interacting with others and functioning in society and left the San Francisco PD no choice but to remove him from active duty.
After several years of care by his private nurse, Sharona Fleming, she bullies Monk into once more taking on criminal cases as a freelance detective consultant. Although he continues to plagued with obsessive compulsive behavior and driving Captain Leland Stottlemeyer up the proverbial wall with his antics; Monk is amazingly insightful and gifted in solving homicides despite his deficiencies as "The Defective Detective".
A long running detective-comedy American TV series, Monk won multiple awards during its series run. It was so popular that it became the highest ranked cable series in history before it was eclipsed by The Walking Dead in 2012. Monk also had a short-lived spin-off series Little Monk which focused on a younger Adrian Monk.
