Queen Latifah ( b. 18 March 1970 ) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actress, producer, and talk show host. She first earned her fame as a rising female rapper in 1989 under the stage name of "Queen Latifah" at the age of 19 and would go on to become the first female rapper to receive a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). She transitioned into acting afterwards and has appeared in live action television and cinematic roles; as well as voice acting performances.

Latifah is best known for her prominent roles in a number of highly acclaimed films including Set It Off; Chicago; Hairspray; and Life Support as well as being the voice actor for the animated female mammoth Ellie in the animated Ice Age film franchise.
