The Rocketeer is an American action/adventure superhero film set in the 1930's period. It starred unknown actor Billy Campbell as the titular character of Cliff Secord/The Rocketeer as well as Jennifer Connelly and Timothy Dalton.

The film was based upon the now late Dave Stevens' independent retro comic book series, "The Rocketeer" first published in 1982. Stevens heavily based the series, concept, and characters upon the Saturday matinee serials such as Commando Cody and King of the Rocket Man with homages to pinup queen and diva Bettie Page along with guest appearances of a variety of pulp heroes ranging from Doc Savage and the Shadow.

The 1930s was the Golden Age of Hollywood and the Golden Age of Flight. And the pioneers of aviation like Howard Hughes were at the forefront of it all. But when Nazi spies steal Hughes' greatest creation, a rocket pack; they are forced to stash it and it inadvertently falls into the hands of ace pilot Cliff Secord. A reckless hothead whose best friends will admit that he's got a few screws loose somewhere.

Secord sees the rocket pack as his ticket to fame and fortune but soon he discovers that everybody is after the rocket pack! Hunted by the news reporters, the FBI, the Nazis, gangsters, and even one of Hollywood's biggest stars Neville Sinclair; Secord is sorry that he ever laid eyes on the rocket! It doesn't help that the FBI are convinced that Secord is working for the Nazis and are out to arrest him as well.

But things are much bigger and much more dangerous than Secord can even guess. Because Hitler has big plans for the rocket pack. A single rocket pack is a wonder. And a legion of them? It can create a unstoppable blitkrieg of rocket troopers that can be used to destroy his enemies and to conquer Europe, America, and the World itself. And his agents are willing to kill to get it.

But they don't have to.

Because when they kidnap Jenny Blake, Secord's girl; Secord ... and the rocket will come to them. Or else.

In the end, only the rocket can help Secord save her. But it will take a hero with more guts than brains to fly it. It will take a Rocketeer...

The Rocketeer had overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics but it failed to perform spectacularly at the box office which ended any chance of possible sequels being made. However interest in the film has remained high and there were plans for a remake as early as 2012. It has since been announced that a remake will be released sometime in 2018.
